Former Clemson golfer Jonathan Byrd solidified his striking-position standing by shooting a one-under par 70 on Friday at the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club at Pacific Palisades, CA.
Byrd is tied for third, just two shots behind leader Phil Mickelson, who holds a one-shot edge over Pat Perez.
Kyle Stanley, meanwhile, bounced back from his opening 74 and shot a second-round 68 – three under par. His score was the best on Friday in a featured threesome that included Mickelson (70) and Brandt Snedeker (70).
Stanley’s 68 included five birdies and two bogeys. He birdied his finishing hole – the par-four ninth. He moved up to 28th place.
Byrd’s 70 included birdies at No. 7, 8 and 18, with bogeys at No. 3 and 14.
He’s currently in a five-way tie for third place with Jimmy Walker, Matt Kuchar, Carl Pettersson and Jarrod Lyle.
In the Nationwide Tour’s Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship, Kevin Johnson and Charles Warren are tied for 24th place at two-under – Warren after a second-round 69 and Johnson after a 70 on Friday.
Ben Martin (73-72) missed the cut by two shots.
In the eGolf Professional Tour’s Palmetto Hall Championship at Hilton Head Island, Brent Delahoussay is tied for second at eight-under – one shot out of the lead – going into Saturday’s final round. Delahoussaye shot a 70 of Friday, following rounds of 71-67.
Stephen Poole is in 34th place at one-under after recording a 71 on Friday, while David May shot a 75 and slipped to 39th position.
